Loud music Banned in Mumbai Cars

Love blasting music to drown the noise of blaring horns in traffic?? Well your days are numbered.

The Mumbai police has pulled the plug on all the expensive audio systems people have installed in their cars.

To ensure safe driving and avoid distractions, one can no longer listen to their favorite tracks and sing along in their cars in Mumbai.

“To cause lesser number of accidents," said S.M.Sabde DCP suburban traffic, "and concentrate on their driving, we have enforced this rule”

While Section 190 (2) of the Motor Vehicles Act says: "Any person who drives or causes or allows to be driven, in any public place or a motor vehicle, which violates the standards prescribed in relation to road safety, control of noise and air-pollution, shall be punishable for the first offence with a fine of Rs 1000 and for any second or subsequent offence with a fine of Rs 2000", the Mumbai police insist that they are only implementing a rule that already exists.

"Radio is a connecting media,” says Radio Mirchi RJ Jeeturaj, “It gives traffic updates… the police is not paying attention to the good work we do. We even give messages to people to drive safely, wear seatbelts etc. Putting the blame on radios is not correct.”
